Two pet owners mad a similar suggestion for a environmental flea treatment for which I we have no experience with:

Please note that a fogger is not the only method to eradicate a home of fleas, not to mention its potential toxic effects, especially with pets in the home! Diatomaceous earth is extremely effective in ridding fleas — something to look up on the internet and recommend to your clients.

Looks like i'm late to the contest, I don't think I would have guessed zinc but I would have guessed it as some kind of metallic poisoning. I hope you post more for us to diagnose. This is entertaining.

Very good! All of you were correct. Lori was first. I will post a picture of what we removed. We could not get the patient to vomit the coins. We removed them surgically and performed a blood transfusion. Martha had the best answer. You all win. Please email us directly to collect at animalkind@verizon.net (we need to confirm your identity). Thanks for participating. Sorry about the delay. The blog is new to us and we didn't know that we needed to approve the posts.

Diagnosis: Canine Zinc Toxicosis.
Cause: Dog probably swallowed pennies or something else that contains Zinc.
Cure: Remove that white, zinc-containing thing that shows up on the xray. Fluids for the kidneys.

so, did i win?

Hi - My best guess is that the dog swallowed a penny and is showing signs of zinc toxicity. The treatment would be a combination of removing the penny (vomiting or surgery), transfusion if indicated for the anemia, iv fluids, and possibly chelation.
